It rises dramatically to an elevation of 9,941 ft. from its junction at Hwy 395 to Yosemite’s Tioga Pass. Grades exceed 8% in spots on this 2-lane route. The shoulders widths along this western segment are 2 ft. between Vista Point and Tioga Pass and widen to 8 ft. between Vista Point and US Hwy 395. The scenery is noted for its spectacular vistas, with drop-offs exceeding 1,000 ft.
